ABOUT US

Rebuilding the Community We Wished We Had

WHY THE BROWNSTONE EXISTS

I looked around for community and found… nothing.

People talked about this mythical village that was supposed to raise us, but it never showed up in my life.

And then it hit me: if the village didn’t exist, I couldn’t wait for someone else to build it. I had to create it myself.

BORN FROM NECESSITY

That’s how The Brownstone Magazine was born — from necessity, from longing, from love.

THE SPACE WE'RE CREATING

The Brownstone is the place I always wished I had —

a space where young Black women can find the kind of wisdom that feels like hiding under the kitchen table, listening to aunties and grandmothers drop gems with tenderness and truth.

Here, we don’t talk at each other. We talk with each other. Because wisdom doesn’t always come with age — sometimes it comes from the sister who just walked the path you’re about to take.

INSIDE THE BROWNSTONE MAGAZINE

Every month, our digital magazine delivers content that feels like a conversation with your most insightful friend. We explore the things that keep us up at night: navigating workplaces that weren’t built for us, building wealth, caring for our minds and bodies, setting boundaries in love and friendship, expressing ourselves through style and creativity, and taking leaps into entrepreneurship and side hustles.

BEYOND THE SCREEN

The Brownstone isn’t just online. Our social club events bring the magic into real life. These aren’t stiff networking mixers — they’re healing spaces. Think laughter, sisterhood, and the kind of conversations that leave you lighter than you came. We’re recreating what it feels like to sit on the stoop with cousins, swapping stories, and soaking up love.

WHY THIS WORK MATTERS

Too many of us are carrying our struggles alone. Depression rates among young Black women are higher than average. Social media connects us, but it can also make us feel more isolated. Traditional media either erases us or reduces us to trauma and perfection. The Brownstone is different. We’re building a bridge between the wisdom of our elders and the innovations of our generation, between personal victories and collective healing, and between where we are and where we deserve to be

  • "I look forward to the new issue every month. The Brownstone is the perfect way to stay up to date on all things beauty, fashion, and culture. I love that we're doing it For The Girls!

    —Anna T. - Dallas

  • "Covid took so much away from us, I'm grateful that The Brownstone is committed to restoring our third spaces."

    —Alana C.

THE MOVEMENT

We dream of a world where no young Black woman has to face life’s challenges alone. Where digital sisterhood flows into real-world connection. Where we see ourselves fully reflected — in joy, in softness, in power. The Brownstone isn’t just a magazine. It’s a movement. And movements change the world.

“We’re not just creating content; we’re cultivating connection.

We’re not just building readership; we’re building sisterhood.

We’re not just starting a magazine;

We’re starting a revolution of care.”
